Incorporating the Northern Area 20km Champs - March 7th 2015

The Northern Area RWA 20km Champs took place in very cold and windy conditions at the National Sports Centre, Douglas on Saturday March 7th. A strong Irish contingent were present under Head Coach Michael Lane.Our thanks go to Event sponsors The Ascot Hotel, and to members of Manx Harriers for once again organising this traditional Winter fixture.

Evan Lynch of IRE/Clonmel was a debut winner of the Open 20Km Walk in a time of 1hr 32m 28s, just under 11 minutes clear of David Kidd (IRE/St Laurence) who finished second in 1hr 43m 15s. RICHARD GERRARD (pictured) of ISLE OF MAN VAC finished third in 1hr 45m 11s to claim the NORTHERN AREA CHAMPIONSHIP ahead of  MICHAEL GEORGE, RICHARD WILD and DAVID WALKER, these three winning the Northern Team Title for MANX HARRIERS.

In the 10Km walk, Clonmel's Aaron Egan took the honours in a time of 47min 46sec, ahead of first lady Veronica Burke of Ballinasloe who recorded 52min 48sec. Jock Waddington of Manx Harriers was third overall in 53min 20sec. Stephanie Quayle of Manx Harriers was the first local lady in a time of 63min 04sec.

Manx Harriers Juniors Olivia Corran and Holly Sanders finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the opening event of the day, the 1km walk. Olivia finished in a time of 6min 43sec, with Holly close behind in 6min 55sec. Daniel Lawrie fininshed 3rd in 7min 47sec. Sarah Glennon from Mullingar Harriers won the 3km event in a time of 16min 5sec ahead of Anna Bourke of Celbridge and Orla O'Connor of Waterford who both recorded 16min 29sec. Stephen Waddington was the first boy to finish in 18min dead with clubmates Archie Walter recording 18min 50 and Alice Bellando 19min 14sec.
