Exciting times for Scotia RWC

Continued efforts have been made North of the Border this year by various club members (pictured below wearing their impressive new vests !)  to promote Race Walking . With weekly training sessions and social events, active involvement in parkruns and athletics generally, travelling far and wide to support BMAF Champs in England,  promoting 'Come-and-Try' races, initial participation in the RWA Inter Area match, and undertaking Officials Track and RW Judging courses  etc . . . . . . . .  there can be no doubt that the club will achieve great things with their go-ahead attitude.

For their very first forthcoming AGM (Friday 4th December at Grangemouth Stadium) the enthusiastic members have formulated a
Development Plan for 2016 and beyond.
  1. Get as many people involved in race walking and athletics in Scotland.
  2. Secondary aim: Scout race walking talent for UK Junior Champs, Celtic Games and Commonwealth Games
  •  In order to spread the message that Scotia RWC, and race walking in Scotland, is on the athletic map, a structured development plan is put in place.
  •  This will offer everybody an opportunity to establish how long-term progress is to be made.
  • ‘Shaping Our Future’ Development Plan (‘The Plan’) has a few development layers to enable the Plan to reach its ultimate goal.
  • In order to keep the Plan at a wise, tangibly-manageable level, it is important to important to consider viable options, along with the available resources.
  • Natural progress and development will follow.
    • The two initial critical efforts will focus on the following:
    • 1. Target population group: Youth (tbc)
    • 2. Target geographical area: West / Glasgow region (tbc)

Dublin Marathon   -   Monday 26th October

Bill McFadden started in the final wave of the fifteen thousand starters, and weaved himself through the field in determined fashion. With tremendous support from the cheering crowd and from runners,  he walked to a time of 4:37:30, finishing in the top two-thirds.
He is now looking at competition at 50km races in 2016. Bill coaches on behalf of Scotia RWC and also Kirky Mile Crunchers, (formerly Rualk) who meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings where fitness walking is taught.

His feedback    -   " Dublin marathon was a success. Really good judgement for 50k. Last 10k became really strong with major race walking support from the crowd. Nice to hear people encourage and know what they are talking about in these type of events. negative split from what I have worked out from my mile pace (if not a close call), will check this fully later. So much respect from the runners that passed me and the ones I left in my dust. Absolutely loved the long haul. "
